This novel is written in such a way that you can't help but fall in love with the main characters, Violet and Finch. It also deals with mental health in an insightful way. A very touching story.
Valerie Leftman's boyfriend brings a gun to school and kills six students and a teacher. He also leaves many wounded, including Valerie, who is shot while trying to make him stop shooting.
I highly recommend this novel! It was sad in spots (make sure you have tissues on hand for the last few chapters) but it also offered fascinating insight into how teens and the adults around them all cope with bullying, trauma and guilt.
Really, this is a must read if you at all enjoy realistic fiction.
If you love teen drama with a touch of slam poetry and a Mexican twist, this is the book for you. I have to warn you that the content isn't for the weak of heart. In this diary style novel, the protagonist (Gabi) shares ALL. This book covers drug issues, teen problems, teen pregnancy, etc. It is NOT for the light-hearted. However, it is a fun read.
Gabi is a sweet character who bravely faces everything that life is throwing at her. I don't want to give too much away, but her Dad does drugs, her choice in boys isn't always stellar, she struggles with her weight, and her friends end up in all sorts of trouble.
I spent a fair bit of time reading Science Fair boards this morning. I was impressed! We have some creative and inquisitive minds at GMS!
